The spirit that is other than the Spirit of Christ is enemy of man and Christ. This other spirit, seeks to take hold of an individual, controlling that person which results in harm to the person and to others. This other spirit causes people to lose their sense of shame and live as if they have no conscience. This deceiving spirit will bring one to a place where they lack modesty and respect while enjoying the attention and delighting in the embarrassment of others.
This passage is a foundational truth, principles of life for every believer. This is how we are to live, this is what distinguishes us from the world, from the heathens, the pagans; the unsaved whatever you want to call it. This is the distinct behavior of those who truly belong to Christ, this is how we are separated from the world, by our love.
At age twelve Jesus made the statement “I must be about my Fathers business.” As He was dying on the cross he made the statement “it is finished.” His Father’s business, was why Jesus was here. Jesus lived to complete the assignment that God the Father gave Him.
It is easy to make over the the outward appearance, what is on the surface, but sometimes this leads us to ignore what is under the surface, especially when what is under the surface is uncomfortable and even painful. God knows we have a deeper problem, and therefore he has given us a more lasting solution. We have a sin problem—painful to admit, yet impossible to manage on our own. We need help. When we acknowledge we need help and admit our inadequacy, we are drawn closer to God. We need his grace, love and tender forgiveness.
Those who truly come to Christ, come with a broken and repentant heart. This is the appropriate response to true conviction that only the gospel message can bring.
Jesus went out after people to share the gospel message. He did not sit back and wait for them to come to Him. And Jesus went everywhere.
